My thoughts and prayers are with you, as I know so many other's are. Singing in the Glee Club defined my time at Yale, more than anything else I did there. In all the singing under all the conductors I've done in the years since, in my mind, I've always compared the experiences to singing with Fenno. One thing I remember he said to us, on many occasions, "It's just not good enough!" And I think most of the time he was right. Something else I remember is walking in (late) to a rehearsal at the first DC Choral Festival (2002 maybe?) arranged by Clay Kaufmann. Fenno looked up, looked straight at me and said (without missing a beat in the music) "Sarah Schwab!" I think, for me, this is the key. He saw straight through to each of us, knew each of us and our strengths and weaknesses, and thereby, was able to ask for, and usually get, the absolute best from us. My choral group is singing two concerts this weekend – I will sing with Fenno in my heart. Peace.
